HONOLULU - There were no surprises from journalists who voted in a media poll to name the best player at the Pan Pacific Championship.

Gamba Osaka's Brazilian forward Bare was named in first place by all six poll members, after his incredible four-goal performance in Saturday night's 6-1 title game victory over the Houston Dynamo.

"I am delighted to be the tournament's top scorer but the best thing is that we won the Championship," said Bare, who also got the only goal in Gamba Osaka's semi-final win against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxy's David Beckham was named in second place for his two assists in the third-place playoff, while Gamba Osaka captain Satoshi Yamaguchi placed third.

The voters were Martin Rogers (Yahoo! Sports), Kyle Galdeira (PA Sports Ticker), Dave Wasser (New York Times), Sean Wheelock (Soccer United Marketing), Leila Wai (Honolulu Advertiser) and Brian McInnis (Honolulu Star-Bulletin).
