Team Bio

Beginning with their inaugural campaign in 2006, the Houston Dynamo – whose team nucleus was moved from San Jose, California to Houston, Texas – wasted no time adjusting to their new setting. Dynamo forward, Brian Ching, led the way to the franchise’s first victory with four goals in a home opener with the Colorado Rapids. Later, at the 2006 MLS Cup, the Hawaiian native again came up big, putting in the final penalty kick to defeat the New England Revolution 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 regulation tie.

In 2007, the raucous supporter’s groups the Texian Army and El Batallón witnessed another impressive campaign by the South Texan side. Keeping with the same 4-4-2 scheme, the Dynamo recorded the single best defensive season in MLS history, allowing just 23 goals in 30 games with an average of 0.77 per contest. Credit is as much due to team captain and defensive anchor Wade Barrett and age-defying goalkeeper Pat Onstad as the entire squad. At the 2007 MLS Cup, the team’s composure and experience again shown through when a header by Dwayne De Rosario capped a late rally to capture the their second consecutive championship, making them the first squad since D.C. United (1996-1997) to repeat. Whether it’s the front line, or the back, the Houston Dynamo has emerged as a dominant force in Major League Soccer.
