Team Bio
One of the original 10 teams to begin MLS play in 1996, the LA Galaxy has been a perennial force of the last decade. Two years after the clubfs inauguration, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) purchased the Galaxy with the intention of transforming the club into a national and international brand. Results were immediate. In 2002, the Guatemalan striker Carlos Ruiz, gEl Pescadito,h notched a golden goal in extra-time of MLS Cup 2002, adding a league championship trophy to the clubfs expanding list of awards.
As part of their vision to be to be recognized as the nationfs leading soccer club, the Galaxy moved into their own soccer-specific stadium in 2003, the celebrated Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Long known for their offensive firepower, the Galaxy added star forward Landon Donovan to its arsenal in 2005. The move was immediately successful as the team brought home its second MLS Cup trophy that year. More recently, the Galaxy garnered international attention for the signing of English midfielder, David Beckham to a multiple year contract. Galaxy's brand of fast-paced, attacking soccer has made the club highly successful both at the gate, and more importantly, on the pitch.
